Jumping to Conclusions

I'm deeply in love with Maclin, but he's not helping me be the most rational, calm person.  I'm not exactly thinking through situations before jumping to conclusions.

For example... Wednesday afternoon, I opened the refrigerator and noticed the light wasn't working.  I closed it and panicked that it was broken.  After a couple hours and decreasing temperatures in the freezer/fridge areas, I was sure.

Mom and I moved food to the deep freeze and David's beer fridge in the basement...and, when David arrived home from taking the Bar, I told him we needed a new fridge.  Mom watched Big Mac and we ran out and purchased a new fridge to be delivered on Saturday.

Problem solved, right?

Nope.  On Thursday, Mom thought it might be a good idea to check the outlet before the new fridge arrived. Turns out the outlet didn't work...so I called Sears to cancel the fridge and made plans to call and electrician today.

David popped over to our neighbor Sam's house to ask him if he knew of a good electrician and he offered to check it out for us.

TURNS OUT, the GFI on a near by outlet had been tripped.  No need for a new fridge.  No need for an electrician.  Nope, I just needed to push the little button labeled "reset."

Cheese and Rice.  Normally, I'm good at thinking things through.  At the end of the day, I am thrilled that we didn't need to spend nearly a grand on a fridge or any money on an electrician; however, I am more than slightly embarrassed that I immediately freaked out.

Maclin's killing my logic.

It's a good thing he's cute.

(sorry for the picture of my thighs.)

Maclin's First Mail

Maclin's dad has been out of town since last Friday.
He doesn't want to be, but the bar exam was scheduled without our input and he made the sacrifice for us.

We miss him, but I think this has been far harder on David than it has on Maclin and me.
Plus, I have my mom in town taking care of him and me.

Since David missed him so much, he decided that Maclin's first piece of mail should arrive from his father.
Big Mac's waaaay more excited than he looks in this picture.

Check it out!
I don't think there's any confusion who was the gift giver here.

The present is great...but it'll be better when David finishes the bar today and comes home.

In other news, Maclin's being a great baby.  At his baby doctor appointment on Monday, he had already gained 3 oz since leaving the hospital.  My chunk is a good eater!

We're smitten with our little guy...

No baby consolation prize

Unfortunately, the baby decided not to show up today...sad. Mom and Dad are in town, so I spent the afternoon walking around the AVMA exhibition hall (after being snuck in by a former teacher, Mrs. Payne) for several hours. I learned it's waaaaaaaaaay more entertaining to tell people "yesterday" when they ask my due date. The reactions are usually a combination of impressed and sympathetic, which I figure is ok.

The coolest part of the day, without a doubt, was WINNING AN IPAD!!!! Dad was talking to his flea medicine sales guy, and I asked to try a key to see if I would win. Miracles of miracles, the box popped open and I almost went into labor.

Almost.

Thinking this was a sign, Mom had me get some lottery tickets on the way home...and I won $2 in scratchers.

Score.

Due Date

Today's my due date...and The Cactus seems a little too comfy inside.  I've decided it's time to evict the little guy.

Therefore, I am issuing 2 day notice for EVICTION. Tenant will have 2 days in which he can either gather his belongings and promptly vacate the premises or wait until Monday. On Monday, he will be physically removed from the property.

He's being evicted due to breech of contract and destruction of property. Expansions only to the FRONT of the house, within reasonable limits, were discussed. Not only have these limits been exceeded, but additions to the back of the house were also made!

Remodeling and gutting of the home was never approved, nor was changing the initial layout and base structure. And due to property damage, there are now leaks in both the upper AND lower levels of the home. On top of which, the landlord has received numerous complaints about nightly disturbances.

After 2 days from this day that he doesn’t comply with the notice will result in immediate and forceful removal by a licensed physician by means of induction.

Good News!

No, The Cactus didn't come yet.  I'm thinking he's as stubborn as his mama doing exactly what he wants.  Eventually, I'll have a baby outside of my belly.  Eventually.

The good news is that David got a job!

I am so happy.

He'll be the Associate General Counsel at Gershman Mortgage.  I'm not entirely sure what his job will entail; however, I'm fairly certain David is equally uninformed about my job.  That makes us even.

He was actually lucky enough to be offered a job on the spot, during his first interview.  My man is amazing.

David is most likely happier than me, as I think he was starting to feel like this about the job search process.

Big Baby

They did another ultrasound on my belly yesterday...and discovered that The Cactus is clocking in at 9 lbs.  He's apparently a good grower, because that's 10 oz more than he weighed on the 5th.  Yep, less than a week...10 ounces.

God Help Me.

According to the doctor, I'm not able to be induced yet.  There's some medical formula (which I googled at one point and then promptly forgot) where if you meet certain thresh holds, you're less likely to require a c-section if induced.  As of yesterday, odds were about 60% that an induction would end in c-section.

I don't want a c-section...so no baby yet.

However, I think my doctor's just as freaked out about the size as I am...so he's said that we will induce next Monday or Tuesday.

Maybe he saw this article...

Awesome Gifts

Over the weekend, David and I received some really awesome baby gifts.  We've been blessed with really generous family and friends and we (impatiently) await the arrival of The Cactus, but these two really shone.

David's mom, Debra, came to town and DEEP CLEANED our entire house.

I'm looking around right now--and I can't get over how clean this place is.  It might be that we've both slacked on cleaning over the summer (what with gestating and bar studying) but the more honest truth is that we're fairly lacks-a-daisial with our cleaning in general.  We'll clean a room (kitchen, bathroom, etc) or a surface (floors, etc), but rarely take the time to clean EVERYTHING.  And clean it well.  Debra did a bang-up job...now the Cactus needs to come before we screw it up and see how clean the house can be.

Come on, Cactus.

The second gift was this book from our friends Mike and Nellie.
I had actually been coveting this book for a LONG time.  I don't think I'm supposed to read it out loud to the little guy... at least when he can understand profanity.  But this book is AWESOME.

The physical book can probably only be topped by listening to Samuel L. Jackson read it out loud.  Check out the link.

1 week til due date!

1 week!  I have one week until my due date!

Here's hoping that The Cactus takes after meet and arrives on time or ahead of schedule and not his "fashionably late" father :)

Yesterday, my friend Henselface (not really her name, but what I call her for some reason) went to get a massage.  Mine was prenatal and her was Swedish, I think.  It was amazing.  I haven't had a professional massage in years and had been suffering through this pregnancy by what I can beg out of David at night.  The lady really focused on my back and hips...and I was able to stay in bed until 7:30 this morning.  That's a miracle--usually I wake up about 3 with aches and spend the rest of the night on the couch, watching tv.  No wonder I'm sleepy all the time :)

The massage was relaxing, but also weird.  The lady who massaged me was the owner, who informed me that I was the "most pregnant" person she had ever worked on.  And then she talked to me for the entire massage.    I found out that she has a 19-month-old son who weighed 11.5 lbs at birth.  She had gestational diabetes and gained 65 pounds, but has lost 70 pounds, giving her a current weight of 175.  She would like to weigh 150 before getting pregnant again, but she's not too worried about that since her son co-sleeps and she has to schedule sex.

She was very sweet and entertaining...but I have to say I prefer a silent massage.  Those are usually common. I also prefer a silent haircut, but those are harder to find!

Since I was so close to my due date, I convinced her to hit the pressure points that are usually avoided during a prenatal massage.  There are some in the calves, feet, and back.  She complied, but no baby yet :(

Irrational Fears

I have this irrational fear that I won't realize when I go into labor.  I think this is probably sparked because I've been watching too many episodes of I Didn't Know I was Pregnant.

I realize I'll probably realize before the baby pops out because all those ladies knew "something" was medically wrong before the baby arrived on the scene...but it's still one of those irrational fears.

I think David's having the irrational fear that I'll go into labor and not tell him.  Several times a day I get a text asking if the baby is here yet.  I've been clear that he'll be the first person I call, but these texts are still cracking me up.

The Cactus needs to arrive already...so I can start having irrational fears related to my parenting.

Nursery Finished!

Mom and Dad came to town over the weekend to do some basic house maintenance for  us.

Thank God, because the day before they came, our garage door went out and the AC started leaking water.

At this stage in my pregnancy, I don't handle things as rationally as I once would.  The AC thing had me crying until my mom (via Grandpa) informed me that air conditioners work by removing humidity from the air and leaking isn't a crisis.  Then I remembered that I have the internet and figured out a quick fix on my own.

A year ago, I could have done all of that but skipped the crying part.  Hormones!

One of the most awesome parts about them coming is that now the nursery is finished...Dad hung the window and the bookshelves that he built and Mom painted.
Yay!

Now The Cactus can come any time.

Which is good, because yesterday they estimated that he weighed 8lb 6oz.

Ouch.

Sewing...

Happy July!

It's July, people!

Do you know what that means?
We're in the final countdown towards meeting The Cactus in person.

And I'm sure ready, because my gut looks like this...

It's slightly less terrifying with my shirt/dress covering it...but that doesn't hide the fact that my waist measured 44" yesterday.

44 INCHES.

Seriously, Cactus.  You're killing me.

He's also making me lethargic, as evidenced by my Independence Day nap with Maggie Roo.
She seems slightly less thrilled about the forced spooning than I do, huh?

Poor baby.
